Few Ferrari models officially bear the names of coachbuilders. With the Ferrari 612, the Pininfarina styled coachwork honors Sergio Scaglietti, the coachbuilder more frequently identified with iconic Ferrari competition cars. The uniquely designated 612 Scaglietti showcased the combined talents of Pininfarina stalwart designers Ken Okuyama and Frank Stephenson and clearly reflected the Pebble Beach-winning design elements of the Scaglietti-designed and built Rossellini and Bergman 375 MM.

In recognition of the importance of the North American market, the 612 Scaglietti was first shown to the public at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in 2004. With flowing lines and a subtle design, this true grand tourer, capable of crossing continents at high speed whilst also keeping its driver and passengers in great comfort throughout the journey. It was well received by the press and by the public.

Although easily capable of carrying four adults plus their luggage, the 612 Scaglietti also benefitted from plenty of performance in keeping with its fabled heritage. With 533 brake horsepower (540 PS) at 7,250 rpm, it could sprint to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds and would go on to a top speed of 196 mph. This performance was partially thanks to an aluminum space-frame chassis with alloy bodywork, which increased torsional stiffness by an incredible 60 percent—making its handling just as exciting as its top speed and acceleration.

Buyers of the 612 Scaglietti had their choice between two transmissions, a newly introduced six-speed F1 paddle-shift transmission or a traditional gated six-speed manual transmission. Astute driving enthusiasts and collectors, opting for a more tactile experience with their new Ferrari, selected the latter. By the time production concluded in 2011, 3,025 Ferrari 612 Scagliettis had been built, yet only 199 of these were fitted with a manual transmission, ensuring future collectability for 612s so equipped. A very small number were available to US buyers.

This 2005 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti is one such example. Equipped with the highly desirable six-speed manual, it left Maranello finished in special Azzurro California over a dark blue leather interior. In addition to the “out-of-range” exterior paint color, additional options include brake calipers finished in the shade of Aluminum, run flat tires with standard rims, heated front seats, and a USA battery charger with prewiring, adding $7,320 to the car’s price tag.

Notably, 142651 stands as first sketched at Pininfarina. Elegant Lusso-era colors, harmonious brake calipers and lack of redundant Ferrari fender shields are classic distinguishing features. A left-hand-drive example destined for North America, it was imported through Port Newark and later sold new through Ferrari of Washington in Sterling, Virginia.

Current ownership purchased the car in the Spring of 2012, where it has since remained in a respected private collection. In 2017 the car was shown at the Ferrari Club of America Annual Meeting where it took home Platinum honors, a testament to its well looked after condition. Careful stewardship and regular Ferrari maintenance have preserved its Platinum-level aura.

The Ferrari is offered with just 5,700 miles from new, and it is accompanied by a sales brochure, window sticker, owner’s manuals, mini Maglite, tool kit, air pump, and car cover with bag.

Post-2000 Ferraris fitted with a manual transmission have become increasingly desirable. These cars offer modern performance along with an unparalleled sense of involvement. In terms of the 612 Scaglietti, it marked the final four-seater model Ferrari offered with a manual transmission, making it seemingly the perfect vehicle for the tifosi to enjoy the finer points of V-12 Ferrari ownership and grand touring.
