While outwardly similar to the Ferrari 488 GTB, the 488 Spider debuted in 2015 and delivered an incredible, open-air experience on command. Sharing its mid-rear-mounted, 661 HP twin-turbocharged 3.9L V-8 engine with the GTB, the 488 Spider marked a quantum leap forward in terms of aerodynamic efficiency and performance. Introduced as the “Most aerodynamically efficient Ferrari spider ever built,” the 488 Spider bristles with cutting-edge aerodynamic aids, including a blown spoiler and vortex generators underneath. It also redefined automotive materials science, with no fewer than 11 different aluminum alloys and other exotic metals used for the ultra-stiff chassis.
Delivering more power than even the vaunted V-12 Enzo of the early 2000s, this 2018 Ferrari 488 Spider is finished in specially-ordered Bianco Italia (Italian White) with a Blu Nart two-tone stripe. The latter item honors the North American Racing team headed by Enzo Ferrari’s close friend and legendary business associate, Luigi Chinetti, who took overall victory for Ferrari at the 1949 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans after an epic 23.5-hour drive. Of course, power and ferocious performance are provided by a twin-turbocharged 3.9L V-8 engine, paired with an F1 7-speed automatic transmission.
This 2018 Ferrari 488 Spider is offered with the odometer reading 8,620 miles at the time of writing. Fabulous highlights include the adaptive front light system and carbon fiber components, including the rear air ducts, side air splitter and outer B-pillar trim. The dual colored interior includes the steering wheel in Blu Sterling leather and the carbon fiber and Blu Sterling upper dashboard. Ferrari’s iconic Cavallino Rampante motif is stitched to the seat headrests in Charcoal.
Other choice features include an aluminum rev counter, parking camera, large-size Goldrake racing seats, the suspension lift system, Sports exhaust, a carbon fiber front spoiler and unforgettable Scuderia Ferrari front-fender shields. Blu Nart-finished brake calipers reside behind a set of 20-inch forged gloss-black wheels.
