Outwardly similar to the Ferrari 488 GTB, the 488 Spider debuted in 2015, and while sharing its mid-rear-mounted twin-turbocharged 3.9L/661 HP V-8 engine with the GTB, the 488 Spider marked a quantum leap forward. Introduced as the “most aerodynamically efficient Ferrari spider ever built,” it bristles with cutting-edge aerodynamic aids including a blown spoiler and vortex generators underneath, with 11 different aluminum alloys and other metals used for the super-stiff chassis. Delivering more power than the V-12 Enzo of the early 2000s, this 2017 Ferrari 488 Spider’s 3.9L/661 HP twin-turbocharged V-8 engine is mated to an F1 dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Finished in Yellow with a body-color, power-retractable hardtop, this 488 Spider features Scuderia shields, black leather Daytona-style seats with yellow stitching and yellow, embroidered Cavallino prancing horses on the seat headrests. In addition to the F1-type steering wheel with Manettino driver controls, this 488 Spider’s cockpit includes an instrument cluster with two TFT screens, carbon-fiber driver zone with LEDs and central bridge, carbon-fiber dash inserts and a yellow-faced tachometer directly facing the driver. Amenities include dual-zone climate control, navigation, premium Hi-Fi audio and black floor mats with red 488 Spider logos.
Driver aids include a tire pressure and temperature monitor, as well as rear parking sensors. The aggressive aluminum body includes carbon-fiber rear air ducts, side air splitter, B-post trim, rear diffuser, underdoor cover and sill kick plates. Other desirable features include the suspension lift system, AFS lighting system, SCM3 magnetic suspension damping, double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension, and black Brembo brake calipers with CCMD carbon-ceramic brakes. Wide Pirelli P Zero extreme-performance tires surround 20-inch forged dark-painted wheels. A true technical tour de force, this 2017 Ferrari 488 Spider has been driven just 1,440 miles since new.
