Ferrari adopted the compact mid-engined berlinetta concept to the road in 1968, progressing from the 206 GT through the 246 Dino, 308-328, 348 and F355. Rapidly improving technology produced the 360 Modena and carried on at warp speed through the F430 to the 458 Italia, which overflows with Ferrari’s Formula One technology. Thanks to World Champion Michael Schumacher’s considerable input, no other preceding Ferrari comes as close to the F1 racer in feel and experience, which begins immediately by snuggling into the Alcantara-covered bucket seat and grasping the padded, small-diameter steering wheel.
There the driver will find almost all the requisite controls, the most important of which is the mannetino dial, which allows the driver to select from five different chassis setups from “Sport” to “Proceed at your own risk.” Proceed it does in any setting, its 4.5L/570 HP DOHC four-valve engine and paddle-shifted 7-speed F1 gearbox pushing the 458 to 60 MPH in 3 seconds flat and a claimed top speed of 202 MPH. Every exterior design cue serves the purpose of enhancing aerodynamic flow, from the aerolastic front wings that bend to reduce drag and improve downforce, to the rear fender contours designed to improve airflow to the rear radiators.
From any angle the 458 Italia is one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever, especially in this example’s Rosso Corsa paint and contrasting Natural Tan interior. A one-owner example driven just 1,211 miles, this virtually new 458 features cloisonné Scuderia Ferrari fender shields and Red-painted brake calipers working on carbon-ceramic brake rotors behind 20-inch forged diamond sport wheels. Power leather seats with Daytona-style Black accent strips, a leather headliner and a Ferrari sound system complete the interior in this world-class supercar, which is offered with books and manuals and a fitted car cover.
