Unveiled at Paris during 1968, the stunning 365 GTB/4 Berlinetta gained its unofficial Daytona name while still a prototype, in honor of Ferrari’s electrifying podium sweep at the 24-hour race there in 1967. Now, as when new, the 365 GTB/4 exemplified the classic front-engine V-12 Ferrari GT concept, with its sleek Scaglietti-built body universally acknowledged as one of Pininfarina’s finest designs. Balance and handling characteristics were impeccable, aided by the Daytona’s rear transaxle. Universally acclaimed as one of the fastest exotic cars available when new, the Daytona excelled in all disciplines.

While intended primarily as a very fast road car without racing pretensions, the 365 GTB/4 was a winner on the track long after production had ended, scoring a class victory at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 1979. The Daytona was an important model for Ferrari, with experts citing as few as 1,284 examples constructed from 1968 to 1973. Declared “… the best sports car in the world” by Road & Track magazine in 1970, the 365 GTB/4 Daytona is simply a necessary component of any serious sports car collection today.

Featuring the early full-length plexiglass frontal treatment and additional marker lights above the front quarter-bumpers, this 1970 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona bears S/N 13611 and is offered with the odometer reading 43,521 kilometers (27,042 miles) at the time of writing. An original left-hand drive example, it was delivered to Ferrari importer Contak South Africa in July 1970. In 1987, it was purchased by Phil Bachman in California, after its previous owner had immigrated to the United States with it.

Breathing deeply through six Weber twin-choke carburetors, this Daytona’s potent 4390cc/352 HP Colombo V-12 engine is numbered 1016 and paired with its 5-speed manual gearbox, No. 251, operated with a gated shift quadrant. The sleek body, numbered 246, was factory-finished in Argento 106-E-1 Daytona paint and later refinished in the Rosso it wears today. The interior is trimmed in Pelle Nera N/P (black leather) upholstery.
