Dodge led the way among the Big Three in 4-wheel drive trucks with its postwar Power Wagon, a civilian version of its WC-series military 4x4s that transported the Allies to victory in World War II. With a gross vehicle weight rating of 8,700 pounds and a factory 1-ton payload rating, this second-series Power Wagon upholds the legend of the one truck that goes where others can’t. Here, the L-head 6-cylinder engine was shelved for a 5.7L LS1 V-8 equipped with a high-flow air intake, custom exhaust and firewall-mounted ignition coils.

The fuel-injected small-block Chevy produces more than three times as much horsepower as the stalwart six, and a floor-shifted 4-speed automatic transmission mated to a 2-speed transfer case sends it to all four wheels. The all-business black and red Power Wagon command center features a black three-spoke steering wheel over a dash equipped with an array of black-dial gauges and engineering data plates with vital operational information. Split bench seating and diamond-plate steel floors accommodate a driver and two passengers or a single driver and cargo with the passenger section removed.

Fire Engine Red and black paint complements the functional design and equipment from the black soft top and four-slat bed rails to the grille guard and bumpers with pull loops. Driving and fog lamps supplement headlamps to light the way forward through all conditions. The repowered Power Wagon rolls over terrain on black wheels with Cooper Discoverer MTP tires, and a matching bed-mounted spare helps ensure uninterrupted 4-wheeling.
