This 1940 Dodge Hot Rod Pickup is a great example of how these old trucks are perfectly suited to being transformed into roadworthy works of art. Professionally built by Eddie “Hemi” Haines in Daytona Beach, Florida, the Hot Rod pickup is lovingly nicknamed “Valerie.” It sports a 700 HP supercharged V-8, custom drivetrain and suspension, and it has been featured in “Truckin Magazine.” The radical exterior presents itself well in maroon paint along with a white firewall, maroon pinstriping and plenty of chrome accents. The roofline of the truck has been chopped 8 inches, sectioned 3 inches and it has been fitted with a split windshield.

Make sure to take a peek at the contents of the bobbed truck bed. A custom 15-gallon gas tank has been nuzzled in alongside custom 4-link suspension, inboard disc brakes and a quick-change Jaguar rear end. The stance and initial attitude of the truck are reinforced by the personalized chrome wheels and drag-worthy whitewall tires. As you move towards the interior of the custom Dodge Hot Rod, you start to get a sense of the craftsmanship and time that was put into producing this one-off piece of rolling art. An aluminum dashboard, billet pedals, butterfly steering wheel, custom seats and piston shifter stand out among many other personalized interior modifications.

A 331/700 HP Dyer’s supercharged V-8 is all the engine this truck needs. Topped by three carburetors with velocity stacks and ported and polished heads, the engine also features an Isky racing cam, MCW Customs 2.5-inch straight pipes, a Magneto distributor and many other beautiful performance pieces. A 3-speed transmission with straight-cut gears sends power from the diabolical engine through a shortened driveshaft, the 3.73:1 Jaguar differential and down to the ground.

A MCW Customs ¾-inch steel-tube chassis helps keep the truck pointed in the right direction with help from a lowered front I-beam axle, custom 4-link suspension, Carrera front shocks and Wilwood 4-wheel single-piston disc brakes. “Valerie” is a beautiful example of where the radical imagination can take a custom Hot Rod. A professional album documenting the build from start to finish is also included with the truck.
