For those who know California car culture, the name Big Willie Robinson is a storied one. Robinson was the muscular leader of the Street Racers of Los Angeles, and the car here was released by Dodge to honor his legacy in 2023 as part of the Last Call program. Back in 1969, Big Willie had been given a 426 Hemi-powered Dodge Charger Daytona, and there isn’t a much better way to honor that than by a Widebody Daytona Edition of the modern Charger. Just 300 of these cars were built, all with special equipment and graphics.
Power comes from the notorious supercharged 6.2L/707 HP Hemi V-8 engine with the adjacent SRT power chiller and an IHI twin-screw supercharger (IHI being the same company that made the turbocharged Ferrari 288 GTO so potent). This is backed by an 8-speed automatic transmission and an anti-spin differential with 2.62 gears. The car features the SRT-developed adjustable mode suspension, Line Lock Launch Control, launch assist and special orange calipers as part of the 4-wheel Brembo braking system. The exterior wears Go Mango paint with special King Daytona graphics and Redeye badges, and this car features the power sunroof.
Inside is a black Nappa leather and Alcantara interior with orange accents, a sport steering wheel, the 220 MPH speedometer as part of package 27Z, heated and ventilated power performance front seats with Daytona logos, and heated folding rear seats. The dash also hosts an 8.4-inch touch-screen display, the stereo system linked to 19 Harman Kardon GreenEdge speakers, an AM/FM/SiriusXM radio with two-piece shark fin antenna, the 4G LTE Wi-Fi hot spot, Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto connectivity with Bluetooth, voice control and USB input and auxiliary inputs.
There is illuminated entry, remote start, a Parkview back-up camera, automatic headlights, blindspot and crosspath detection, and GPS navigation. With hood pins and a rear spoiler harkening to the past, the King Daytona rides on 20×11-inch Satin Carbon lightweight wheels.
