Is it questionable to wonder if the SRT8 Dodges of the current era will be as collectible as those from the past? When considering just what the 2012 Inaugural Edition of the then-new SRT8 392 HEMI was, take into account that this machine features a 470 HP powerplant that the factory itself noted could top 182 MPH, yet get 23 miles-per-gallon thanks to its advanced technology. The 6-speed transmission offers immense driving pleasure, while a dual-mode adaptive damping suspension allows the driver to tailor handling characteristics to one’s personal desire and conditions.
Interior design and execution are both unique and luxurious, with a leather bucket-seat upholstery, excellent gauging and control functions and media options. The exterior could be had in just two color combinations that first year, white with blue graphics, or as seen here, blue with white graphics. Of course, the two-door Challenger platform itself is a revival of the past, with styling cues that harken back to its lineage while establishing a new reputation solely its own. This SRT8 Challenger was purchased new by Tim Wellborn and has been in climate-controlled storage since that time. It has been driven 7,500 actual miles since delivery.
The car rides on its factory 5-spoke 20×9-inch fully forged-aluminum wheels with thin-profile Goodyear RSA All-Season tires, backed by serious multi-piston 4-wheel Brembo disc brakes. It is optioned with the Viper-bred Tremec TR-6060 6-speed manual transmission and dual-disc high-performance clutch, a combination that requires respect from the driver and sheer satisfaction under power. White-leather seating with blue inserts and 392 embroidery complete this fabulous color combination. As for the engine combination, little needs to be said. The term 6.4L has gained its own notoriety, with 392 CI following a Hemi-legacy displacement from the 1950s era.
Though similar examples of this breed exist, a Wellborn collection provenance can only aid in making this an investment for tomorrow, and it has been preserved for that purpose.
