Things that create desirability in a restored car can vary, but the 1970 Challenger T/A offered here would be difficult to make more attractive. Having been treated to a rotisserie restoration, this car’s stunning optioning is documented via the original broadcast sheet, with the original Mopar fender tags and matching secondary body stamping codes. The T/A's single-year release is well known, as are its equipment changes and body, the latter of which was unique to this model. To meet the requirements of SCCA competition, there were approximately 2,400 T/As produced, all released with the exclusive 340 Six Pack engine, fiberglass body panels and special suspension.

Beyond that, buyers had some options, one of the most desirable being extra-cost High Impact Paint. This 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A is equipped with an original 340 Six Pack engine, original A727 automatic transmission and original 3.55 Sure Grip rear end. It comes with power front disc brakes and power steering, and the body is correctly refinished in its original FC7 Plum Crazy purple color. That color is accented with a black vinyl top, side graphics, scooped hood and spoiler package for a truly iconic appearance.

Inside, bucket seats and black vinyl upholstery are augmented nicely by the Rallye dash with factory tachometer and gauges, wood-grain appliques, a console with SlapStik shifter, and a wrapped three-spoke steering wheel. Of course, the front and rear T/A spoilers, unique side-exit chrome trumpet exhaust system, mandated hood pins, rear-mount radio antenna and special, offset-size 15-inch Rallye wheels wearing performance-oriented Goodyear Polyglas GT tires are also on this car. Open the decklid to see that both the space saver spare and filler bottle are installed with the jack as well.

The T/A racing program under Sam Posey was met with limited success, though these unique homologation specials have remained quite visible since their 1970-only release. Take a careful look at this example of true Dodge Material and it’s easy to understand why these are still such an important piece of Mopar’s history.
