For 1957, Chrysler would receive an entirely new appearance, redesigned with the latest iteration of Virgil Exner's "Forward Look" at a cost that, by some estimates, neared a shocking $300 million.

“Car of the Year” award was presented to Chrysler for the unique styling, brute Hemi performance and superior handling of its top-of-the-line cars. The flagship New Yorker model line for 1957 featured a host of technically advanced equipment for the era, including “Torsion-Aire” suspension, and came standard with power steering. With 325 horsepower provided by the legendary 392-cubic inch Firepower Hemi V8 backed by a TorqueFlite three-speed automatic transmission, New Yorker wagons like the example offered here were luxurious and powerful status symbols for the mid-century family of means.
Finished in gorgeous Copper Brown Metallic over Desert Beige with complimenting beige and black upholstery, this top-of-the-line New Yorker Town and Country Station Wagon represents one of just 1,391 examples built for 1957, of which only a small handful are known to have survived to the present. Though the New Yorker was already a particularly well-equipped automobile for its day, this particular example is truly special: It comes equipped with nearly every available factory option, including power brakes, power windows, four-way power front seat, Music-Master AM Radio, whitewall tires, and air conditioning, itself a $495 factory option.
Apart from the vaunted 300C, it was among the most expensive configurations Chrysler had to offer, and significantly more expensive than its long-roofed competition, including the Chevrolet Nomad.
This New Yorker Town and Country Station Wagon wears an older, but well-kept and thoughtfully preserved restoration. The unique exterior livery is complemented by a truly stunning and richly appointed cabin tailor-made for relaxed grand touring; it is highly comfortable even by today’s standards. Both the body and undercarriage remain extraordinarily solid and reflect that a vehicle that spent much of its life being pampered and carefully enjoyed. The Chrysler is said to perform with ease, making it an ideal vehicle for vintage excursions; this end it, is accompanied by period accessories, including a cooler, thermos, blanket, and picnic basket, in addition to brochures and a manual.
