The LeBaron name was long a kind of good luck label for Chrysler, stretching back through the 1930s. Gracing both Chrysler and Imperial products, LeBaron was often associated with very successful sales and high public opinion. For the 1980s, Chrysler would radically revamp how it built cars, and the LeBaron brand would mark an all-new front-wheel drive lineup of sedans, wagons, coupes and convertibles. The convertible would make history as the first factory-made American convertible since 1976. Driven by 4-cylinder engines with optional turbos, the new LeBarons were introduced at a time when buyers were seeking fuel-efficient vehicles, and sales were very strong from the onset.
This 1986 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible is a stunning example of the brand. Powered by the turbocharged 2.2L/146 HP inline 4-cylinder engine and an automatic transmission, the silver exterior is complemented with a power-operated black soft top. The two-tone gray and white interior is trimmed with wood-grain applique and fitted with bucket seats, a center console, power windows and an AM/FM/Cassette stereo system with a graphic equalizer. Rounding out the interior is a very period digital dashboard. Set on whitewall tires with wire wheel covers, the overall look is modernly classic.
