Presented in like-original condition after a comprehensive restoration, this 1960 Imperial Crown convertible is one of just 618 Imperial convertibles produced that year. In keeping the car as close to factory-delivered as possible, the original 413/350 HP V-8 engine and the original TorqueFlite automatic transmission were rebuilt to original specifications. The body was painted Regal Red and the brightwork was refreshed for a spectacular overall appearance. A rare Highway Hi-Fi record player was restored and installed in the new white leather interior, which also features swivel seats and a foot-operated radio control.
As seen in “Graveyard Carz” and on Lance Lambert’s “Vintage Vehicle Show,” the Imperial also received the AACA Senior Grand National Award in 2013, a 1st Place at the Imperial Owner’s State Meet in San Simeon, California, in 2015 and the Best of Show and People’s Choice at the Columbia Cascade Concours d’Elegance in Vancouver, Washington. Complete with an extensive binder documenting a 3,200-hour restoration, a set of literature and display materials specific to the 1960 Imperial Crown will accompany the purchase. The sales brochure hailed the 1960 Imperial as the best automobile built in America in the last three decades.
A huge claim for sure, but Imperial insisted that its cars were the most carefully built in the world, receiving a lot more hands-on attention to detail than any of its competitors. Imperial also boasted that the new 1960 Imperials brought undeniable style, impressive size and passenger space to the market in a package that looked fleet, alive and competent. Interestingly, this car on offer looks exactly like the convertible presented in the brochure, parked next to the swimming pool of a very modern home and two well-heeled people enjoying a casual conversation.
