With an odometer reading of just over 67,000 miles, this 1967 Chrysler Imperial Sedan is one of just 2,193 built that year. Powered by a 440 CI V-8 engine and an automatic transmission, the Imperial is finished in Persian White and was all-new-for-1967 when it rolled off the line with fresh styling comprised of sharp edges meeting dramatic flat surfaces for a very modern look. The chassis boasted a new suspension system, new rubberized bushings better cushioned the body, the seating surfaces featured double padding, and the bodies were laden with more sound-deadening materials than ever before.
This one rolls on white-stripe tires with full-diameter wheel covers and has rear fender skirts, a remote-controlled driver’s sideview mirror and a host of unique details. T he interior features blue cloth and vinyl upholstery and is equipped with factory air conditioning, a Touch-Tuner AM radio with an add-on Realistic FM radio, power windows, a power antenna, power steering, power disc brakes and a clock, to name a few conveniences. The dashboard, steering wheel and door panels feature wood grain, brightwork and satin silver surfaces, which, against the darker blue coloring, standout handsomely well.
For 1967, the Imperial was offered in three variants (Custom, Crown and LeBaron), and the company was pushing its new-found versatility. Imperial felt luxury cars should revolve around their owners, not the other way around, and therefore designed cars to be convenient and comfortable at the touch of a button. Seats were maneuverable, climate control was easily adjusted, and an abundance of lighting packages and glove compartments were available, as were individual ashtrays and lighters. Imperial pricing started at just over $5,000 and edged up to nearly $7,000 for the topline LeBaron four-door hardtop.
The 440 CI V-8 was the largest engine Chrysler had offered to date, and it was very new, having just been introduced in 1966. The automatic transmissions had been recalibrated and reengineered specifically for the 440, and the Imperial’s braking system was a twin-channel design providing enhance safety, balance and control. Chrysler truly did a masterful job reinventing the Imperial for 1967, and this bird-in-the-hand presents beautifully.
