It was the end of a turbulent decade and the automotive manufacturing business was being challenged economically. Mike Sabo Jr. came into the McKeesport Chrysler-Plymouth franchise in western Pennsylvania and purchased a new Chrysler Cordoba that can only be defined as “fully loaded.” In fact, the final tally on this luxury car was just under $10,000 at the time, and today the odometer reads just 7,935 miles.

Extensively documented via its window sticker, the vehicle preparation sheet, original owner’s manual and booklets, and a plethora of associated delivery paperwork, this car is recognized for its long list of options and unrestored status, and it hails from an era many have overlooked until recently. Beneath the hood is the Chrysler 360 CI LA-series V-8 engine, which by this time was considered an excellent choice for a car this size. It’s equipped with a snorkel-design air cleaner with flexible fresh air tubing, and looking underneath the hood shows the optional air conditioning and cruise control features, the Spark Control System box and a clean OEM appearance.

The TorqueFlite automatic transmission backs this up with an optional Sure Grip differential out back. This Chrysler came with the Cordoba’s A04 Basic Group that added more than $1,100 worth of equipment as standard to this model, and it features power front disc brakes as well. The exterior is in Chianti Red with the matched white Landau top and premium DLRW bucket seat, two-tone, red and white leather interior.

Among the equipment installed inside was the C16 center console with floor shifter, the premium R37 AM/FM/8-track stereo radio, wood-grain facings, power steering with an extra-cost S81 leather-trimmed steering wheel, G76 sport mirrors with driver’s remote, and the electric rear window defroster. Outside are Cordoba medallions including the centered hood ornament, wheel trim and lower rocker moldings, W25 forged aluminum road wheels with turbine-styled center caps, and Goodyear whitewall tires. With preservation being a prime collecting focus of the current car marketplace, few 1979 Cordobas can equal this car in terms of originality and current conditioning.
