The final expression of Chrysler’s full-size 300 “Letter Series,” the 300L of 1965 featured updated bodywork penned by Elwood Engel, while interiors featured a center console, front bucket seats, textured upholstery and a wide array of comfort and convenience options. Power was delivered by Chrysler’s 413/360 HP Wedge engine featuring 10:1 compression, a hydraulic cam and Carter 4-barrel carburetor. Comprehensive heavy-duty underpinnings brought taut handling. Just 2,405 300L hardtops and 440 convertibles were produced including this example, which is finished in black with a red accent stripe, red interior and power-operated black convertible top.
Desirable features include a rare, optional factory 4-speed manual transmission with Hurst shifter, console-mounted tachometer, factory air conditioning, an AM/FM radio, in-dash clock, power brakes and power steering. Riding on steel wheels mounting full bright wheel covers and white stripe tires, this very rare 1965 300L convertible is an enjoyable example from the final model year of Chrysler’s celebrated “Letter Series.”
