With the dawn of the 1960s, Chrysler released the sixth of its letter-series 300 models, the “300-F” two-door sport luxury car. The nameplate that had first taken the market by storm back in 1955 was now refined with a 126-inch wheelbase on a 219-inch overall length, and the convertible offered here is one of only 248 produced for that model season. Featuring Chrysler’s torsion bar suspension, Virgil Exner’s crisp-edged styling and unibody construction, this classic is the result of a body restoration. As the halo vehicle in the Chrysler passenger car lineup, every 300F came with a plethora of standard equipment and a price to match.
Beneath the hood is a 413/375 HP wedge-design RB-series Chrysler big-block V-8 engine, complete with a cross-ram intake and dual 4-barrel carburetors. The intake runners are painted red, and there are also chrome valve covers, a 35-amp generator, paired round air cleaners and dual exhaust. This is backed with a TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission, and this car is equipped with power steering and power brakes, which were standard in 1960. Sporting a pink exterior, the car features a power-operated white convertible top over the beige leather interior. Inside, a black dashboard faces the car’s unique swivel-style power front bucket seats.
There is a pushbutton gear selector as part of the rounded AstraDome instrument group, as well as a factory tachometer, the Golden Tone radio, a heater/defroster and power windows. Black carpets complete the interior, while outside are Exner’s noteworthy angled rear fins incorporating the tail lamps, the rear quarter chrome side spears with large 300F medallion, faux spare design stamped into the decklid, massive chrome bumpers and the cross-hair 300F grille. The original jack instructions are affixed to the trunk. This car rides on period-correct Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels with a set of original hubcaps included.
The 1960s would prove to take Chrysler Corporation’s brand recognition to new heights. That decade began with these gorgeous, well-appointed convertibles in the 300F series.
