This 1956 Chrysler 300 was custom-built by Boyd Coddington for Gary Meadors (the founder of Goodguys) circa 2006 and was the subject of an extensive article in Street Rodder magazine on October 16, 2007. According to Meadors, this car was originally a rare stick-shift model (31 built) designed for NASCAR competition. The auto was restored in Coddington's shop and was often seen in the background during his TV show, 'American Hot Rod.' The body has been restored to original condition, except that it was lowered and the bumpers modified to be closer to the bodywork. It is painted black and is still in exceptional condition.
The interior and dash are also stock in appearance, but are finished in red leather throughout by Gabe Lopez. The interior is in mint condition. Hidden in the dash are Vintage Air controls and a Pioneer stereo. The engine is the original 354 HEMI with 2x4 carburetors, with a Crane cam, J&E pistons(9.5:1), PerTronix ignition and Hedman headers, assembled by Ken Brody. The transmission is a TH400. Smooth new inner fender wells and firewall (signed by Boyd Coddington) were also fabricated. The chassis is far more exotic, yielding modern car handling. New front and rear sections of the frame were fabricated and fitted with Dodge Viper independent front and rear suspension.
Aldan coilover shocks fitted with Eibach springs were also installed. Viper Brembo disc brakes were also fitted front and rear, as well as the Viper power rack & pinion steering. The Boyd one-off custom-machined wheels are designed to mate with the Viper hubs and are 17x8' front and 17x9.5' rear.
