Launched for 1964 and produced through 1967, the first-generation Chevelle ushered in Chevrolet's entry into the new mid-size intermediate-car marketplace. From new, the Chevelle and its upscale Malibu trim level were immensely popular, capable of accommodating virtually all available Chevy power teams and delivering outstanding performance. Hot-rodders and custom builders have long applied their artistry to the Chevelle, including this 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu custom coupe, powered by a 406ci small-block Chevy V8 engine equipped with 'camel hump' heads, 10.5 compression pistons, an Eagle crank, Holley carburetor, hydraulic camshaft and roller rockers.

A shift-kit-equipped 4-speed overdrive automatic transmission and 3,000-rpm stall converter sends the power to the street via a 3.73 FAB 9-inch rear end. Supporting items include a gas tank with sump, all braided stainless lines and a high-torque starter. Upgraded underpinnings include Hotchkis suspension front and rear and 4-wheel disc brakes. The interior has been professionally trimmed and features all-new seats and carpeting, a new headliner, a new dash pad and new door panels, supplied by Parts Unlimited.
