This Tuxedo Black 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS has a celebrity history, as it is currently owned by baseball legend Reggie Jackson, who actually built the engine in his high-performance engine shop in San Francisco. A dream car of Jackson’s when he was in high school, the 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS was acquired by Jackson in 1980. The Impala is powered by a 409/409 HP V-8 engine with dual 4-barrel carburetors and a dual-snorkel air cleaner, and it's mated to a 4-speed manual transmission and a 4.11 Positraction rear end.
Other features include a black bucket-seat interior with console and floor shifter, the SS-only dash-mounted passenger grab handle, tinted glass, a column-mounted tachometer, Goodyear Silvertown whitewall tires with spinner wheel covers, and dual exhaust. The 409 CI V-8 was a late 1961 addition to the lineup, and it became a regular option starting in 1962. It featured a 4.3125-inch bore and a 3.5-inch stroke. The dual-quad version featured a solid-lifter camshaft and was rated at 409 HP at 6,000 RPM with 420 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM. It also came with an 11.0:1 compression ratio and a pair of Carter AFB carburetors.
Jackson’s 1962 Impala SS features much of its original Tuxedo Black paint, and the odometer reads 61,860 miles.
