From its introduction in 1970 through subsequent generations, the ZR1 moniker has always commanded respect as the most exotic, complete, best-performing Corvette in the lineup, but this 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Coupe stands head and shoulders above its predecessors as the ultimate production front-engine Corvette of all time. Working with the same all-aluminum LT4 V-8 powering the contemporary Camaro ZL1 and Cadillac CTS-V, Corvette Engineering specified a 52% larger Eaton TVS supercharger and a host of internal upgrades to realize its target of 755 HP and 715 lb-ft of torque, with 600 lb-ft coming in at just 2,200 RPM. The result: unrelenting acceleration—think 3 seconds to 60 MPH and a top speed reaching 200 MPH. An 8-speed, paddle-shifted automatic works through the car’s electronically controlled limited-slip differential, part of the ZR1 Performance Package that includes performance suspension, magnetic ride control, dry sump oiling, a rear differential cooler and performance exhaust.
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires on black alloy wheels and carbon ceramic disc brakes with red-painted calipers ensure magnetic handling at the limit, where the ZR1’s ZTK Track Performance Package comes into play with front splitter end caps and an adjustable high rear wing.
