This is a special Corvette as one of only three Official Pace Cars built for the 2004 Daytona 500 and one of just two still in existence. Showing just 410 actual miles on the odometer, the car presents in its original and unaltered paint scheme of Millennium Yellow with red, white and blue Daytona 500 Pace Car livery and even retains its original custom-sculpted track light bar affixed to the roof.
The historical significance of this Corvette is steeped in NASCAR folklore, having led the procession of 43 cars participating in the 2004 Daytona 500 that was ultimately won by Dale Earnhardt Jr., whose victory came six years to the date after his father Dale Earnhardt Sr. won the same coveted race in 1998 and just three years after his father’s death at the same venue in 2001. Only three father-son duos have ever won the Daytona 500, the others being Bobby and Davey Allison and Lee and Richard Petty.
It is only fitting that the owner of the victorious race car would be Teresa Earnhardt, widow of the late Dale Earnhardt Sr., and prepared by DEI (Dale Earnhardt Incorporated) with Crew Chief Tony Eury Sr., a long-time friend and associate to both father and son. Referred to as the “Great American Race,” the Daytona 500 will forever be remembered by the Earnhardt family with mixed emotions of both extreme triumph and extreme tragedy. This Corvette is also a tribute to the Chevrolet Motor Division, whose race victories with the Earnhardt family is well documented, both with Chevrolet small-block power built on the Monte Carlo body.
The excellent showroom condition of the car is commensurate with both its low mileage and its storage in a temperature-controlled garage. This 2004 Corvette is the ultimate tribute to both Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Sr., as well as NASCAR and Chevrolet.
