Visually, the 1941 Cadillac was a masterpiece of understated, flowing curves that began with a bold and distinctive grille design. The renowned egg-crate texture of the front grille is accredited to sketches made by Arthur Ross and refined by Harley Earl. The flat, chromed grille and domed hood were dominant, with two new styling concepts available, including the horizontal valance enclosing the space between the bodywork and the bumpers and the front fender wind-split creases beginning at the headlamps and extending horizontally back along each rear flank of the body. The sole available engine, Cadillac’s 346-cu. in. V-8, delivered remarkably silent and smooth operation, 150 hp, and plenty of torque.
The Series 62 convertible coupe offered here has been part of Thomas F. Derro’s collection since April 2002. Its factory build sheet, a copy of which is on file, notes that it was originally finished in black with a red leather interior and numerous options, including blackwall tires, running boards, wheel discs, radio with aerial, and an automatic heater. It was shipped new to the Providence Cadillac Company on 3 April 1941. Later it was restored in the present color scheme of Dusty Gray with a tan leather interior, and with subtle concessions to modern comfort, including coil-over front suspension; the rear springs have been lowered slightly for a sleeker look.
Interesting touches include various European touring stickers on the windshield and vent windows, indicating that the car was likely used for overseas touring at some point in the past.
Simply put, this is a superb example of one of the deservedly most popular Full Classics, ready for continued enjoyment on the open road.
