Introduced in 1962 as part of the Invicta series, the new Wildcat coupe was the most expensive car in Buick’s Invicta line. Standard equipment included a special vinyl interior with bucket seats, a vinyl top and special trim details that set it apart. The Wildcat returned for 1963 as a series of its own, virtually replacing Buick’s Invicta models. Like the Oldsmobile Starfire and Pontiac Grand Prix, this was full-size performance aimed squarely at the Ford Thunderbird and the personal luxury segment that was just beginning to take hold in the market place. Ironically, Buick introduced its own Thunderbird contender in 1963—the dynamic Riviera.

This stunning Fire Red 1970 Wildcat with a white vinyl top and black bucket seat interior comes from the final year of Wildcat production. Bodies were shared with LeSabre models, though Wildcats featured two decorative ventiports on the lower front fender panels. Buick went out in a blaze of glory as all Wildcats featured the marque’s new 455/370 HP V-8 engine, which offered 510 lb-ft of torque—the highest number of any car sold in 1970. In addition to its spectacular color combination, this Wildcat is lavishly equipped, adding to its desirability and final-year status.

The beneficiary of a body-off restoration, it is equipped with many options including power steering, brakes, windows and locks, bucket seats with a console-mounted shifter, factory air conditioning, accessory floor and trunk mats, a heavy-duty suspension and white-stripe tires mounted on Rally wheels. Buick said it best: “Now wouldn’t you really rather have a 1970 Buick?” This is a chance to own one great looking Wildcat.
