Scott Pruett—whose driving exploits in IMSA, NASCAR and IndyCar have made him famous—just loves to create fabulous customs and restore vintage cars. He inspired the creation of this superb 1950 Super Woody Wagon known as “Low Tide,” and this might be considered Pruett’s masterpiece. In 2013, the Sherwin-Williams SEMA booth popped to life with the addition of Low Tide, the Buick that shed its original style in favor of a fabulous custom treatment by Roseville Rod and Custom in 2013 with body and paint work completed by Wayne Shingleton.

The car’s stunning transformation was recognized by an extensive list of respected awards in the years to follow; it earned First in Class and Overall Outstanding Full/Radical Hand Built/Custom at the Sacramento Autorama, GoodGuys Staff Pick at two different Good Guys shows and was selected as the cover car of the “GoodGuys Gazette” (July 2014); the car was also awarded Viewer’s Choice and best interior at Classics by the Capital, Best Exotic at Cruisin’ for a Cure, Best in Show at Classics on the Green and at Cruise the Historic Gold Country, and was also selected as one of the Top 100 nationwide by Painless Performance Products/”Street Rodder” magazine.

Finished in a stunning color called Mocha Pearl by Sherwin-Williams’ Planet Color Collector Color series, every centimeter of this Buick has been treated to something special, setting it well apart from anything else around. The wood tones are maple and burl wood. The maple is real, but all the burl wood is hand painted, even on the original, all-steel dashboard. The interior is upholstered in a striking tan, offset with medium brown trim, entirely complementing the Mocha Pearl paint. Overhead, maple-wood slats create a fabulous headliner reminiscent more of fine wooden boats than a car.

The front bucket seats are split by a custom console, also upholstered in the tan-and-brown treatment, housing a simple chrome sliding-gear selector, power-window operators and LCD control screen in the stack. Plush carpeting and matching floor mats match the interior browns and lend further elegance to an already opulently appointed and designed interior. Ogden Chrome polished and plated the bumpers, merging Cadillac bullets to the front in the process and reconfiguring the rears to house stylish, inboard tailpipes.

The factory side-lifting hood has been left alone, and underneath resides a 502/485 HP V-8 GM crate engine backed by an automatic transmission: perfect for cruising or leaving a trail of scratch on the asphalt. Rolling on staggered, one-off custom 19×8 front and 20.5-inch rear Budnik wheels, this Buick Super Woody Wagon leaves no detail unattended.
