Known as Bu’Wicked, this customized Buick Special is finished in the striking two-tone paint combination of Lexus Jade Mica over Silver Jade. It was built by Bill McGlaughlin’s Hot Rod Fabrication in Auburn, Washington, the custom paint and bodywork was executed by Rich Thayer of R&J Customs in Buckley, Washington, and the custom interior was fashioned by Jon and Gabby Lind of Eugene, Oregon. The procharged 455 CI V-8 engine is backed by a Richmond 6-speed manual transmission, and it’s built with aluminum T/A Performance Stage II Street Eliminator heads, forged J&E pistons and custom components such as the intake manifold, blower plumbing, headers and exhaust system.
Dyno tested at 700 HP, the engine is dressed with a multitude of polished and painted components and nestled into an engine bay that is smoothed and painted in the same two-tone fashion as the exterior. The Art Morrison chassis features Baer/Alcon 4-wheel disc brakes with 4-piston calipers biting down on cross-drilled and slotted rotors, a Heidts coilover front suspension with stainless-steel A-arms, a Scribner-fabricated axle housing with a 9-inch Ford center section packed with 3.55:1 gears, and an Eaton Trac-Lok differential. The polished Budnik Arrowhead wheels are wrapped with wide, low-profile Michelin tires.
Inside, passengers revel in a custom interior with custom gauges, upholstery that matches the exterior paint, bucket seats, a center console and a host of modern amenities. It was featured in Custom Rodder and Popular Hot Rodding magazines, and a playable version of Bu’Wicked is even featured in the Gran Turismo 2 video game.
