The Buick brand was in transition in the era this car was built, and this version of the first-generation Electra would last just two model years, 1959-1960. The car here is the most exclusive of that breed as an Electra 225 convertible. Heir of the Roadmaster’s legacy, the Electra would be the benchmark Buick for most of its longevity (through 1990), and here is a wonderful opportunity to get ownership of a very distinctive model design. Under the hood is the Wildcat 445, so named for its torque rating with a 401 CI displacement and factory horsepower rating of 325 HP.

It is backed by a Dynaflow column-shifted automatic transmission, and this car, sold new in Las Vegas, features both power steering and power brakes. The body design itself shows refined styling, using a treatment of finned edges coupled to rounded contours that actually blend together well. Painted white with matching convertible soft top, exterior highlights include the polished and ribbed lower rocker trim with lower body gray paint accenting, upper edge chrome lines, the concave grille showcasing the just-introduced Buick “tri-shield” emblem, and the return of front fender “Venti-ports” that had formerly signified the Roadmaster line.

Inside is also premium throughout, with a red leather bucket seat interior featuring a center console and the newly released two-spoke steering wheel with horn bars. In addition to factory air conditioning, there are power seats, power windows, the original Wonderbar AM radio with rear speaker and power antenna, a tinted windshield, a unique underdash four-gauge pod indicating amperes, fuel level, oil pressure and engine temperature, the oval-faced dash clock and dealer-installed seatbelts. Outside, the Buick name is proudly displayed on accessories like the rearview mirrors, with associated Electra 225 identification.

The final touch are the Super Deluxe full-size wheel covers and period-correct wide whitewall tires. The fins faded in 1961, as Electra and other GM models adjusted to changing tastes. This classic Buick convertible remains a touchstone to its construction era and will be a wonderful addition to anybody’s garage.
