Following the May 1998 acquisition of the rights to use the iconic Bugatti logo and the trade name (Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.), German automotive giant Volkswagen AG released a series of concept cars culminating in the stunning Veyron EB 16.4. Developed in Germany, with Bugatti production returned to Molsheim, France, the Veyron EB 16.4 paid homage to Ettore Bugatti and legendary French racing driver Pierre Veyron. The chief designer of the Veyron EB 16.4 was Hartmut Warkuss, with exterior styling by VW’s Jozef Kaban, and engineering led by chief technical officer Wolfgang Schreiber.
The original Veyron EB 16.4 famously reached 407 KPH (253 MPH) at VW’s Ehra-Lessien test track in 2005, making it the world’s fastest production car. Famously putting out approximately 1,000 rated HP from its 8.0L quad-turbo W-16 engine, the Veyron EB 16.4 eclipsed the vaunted McLaren F1’s 241-MPH speed record set in 1998. Media fanfare included a multitude of print and online feature articles, plus being named the “2000s Car of the Decade” and “Best Car Driven All Year in 2005” by the BBC’s globally popular TV program “Top Gear.” Production ended in late 2014, but special edition models continued until 2015.

Power is delivered by Bugatti’s quad-turbocharged 8.0L/987 HP W-16, equipped with adaptive dry-sump lubrication, fuel injection, 10 heat exchangers, and twin intercoolers and intake manifolds. Twin exposed aluminum rear intake snorkels ram air into the massive W-16 engine. Power delivery is via a Ricardo 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
Other technical highlights include Haldex traction control, active aerodynamics with three ride height modes, front diffuser flaps and a rear diffuser, plus a rear wing/air brake. Stopping is provided by 15.7-inch carbon-ceramic disc brakes with 8-piston, 4-pad titanium calipers up front and 15-inch rear carbon-ceramic disc brakes with 6-piston, 2-pad titanium calipers. Finished in Black Metallic with a Havana Tan leather interior, this Veyron EB 16.4 includes a Tan Alcantara headliner and choice amenities including heated bucket seats, automatic climate control and an audiophile-quality Burmester sound system.
Twelve-spoke aluminum wheels mount 265/680 front and 365/710 rear Michelin Pilot Sport PAX tires. Factory books and a Bugatti-branded battery charger round out this stunning machine.
