The client found an X6 M Competition in Dubai. The listing said: 2023, GCC specs, no repainting, no accidents, AED 345,000. We went to inspect it.
We checked the year on the factory plate. It shows a production date of 06/2022. The car is one model year older than advertised.
Next, the bodywork. We checked every panel with a paint thickness gauge. The factory paint thickness on this car is 236–298 μm. The front left fender, front left door, and front bumper read 310–354 μm. These panels have been repainted. There is also damage to the bumper where it meets the fender.
Electrics. We connected the dealer diagnostic scanner and checked all the control units: 69 errors. Almost all were due to low voltage; the battery is weak and needs replacing.
The mileage turned out to be genuine: 48,128 km, consistent with the engine hours (74,310 minutes of engine operation).
Bottom line: a different year, three repainted panels, and a damaged bumper, despite the listing claiming “2023, no repainting, no accidents.” The client declined to buy it. For AED 345,000, you want to get the car described in the listing.
A few hours spent inspecting a car like this cost far less than losing money on a repainted door when reselling it.
Have you come across cars in the UAE where the year in the listing didn’t match the factory plate?
