Identifiable by a circular intake in the front bumper to feed the carbon air box of its sonorous 3.2-litre straight-six, the E46-generation CSL invariably features in conversations regarding the best BMW M3 of all time. True to its “Coupé Sport Leicht” name, the model shed 110 kilograms with the first use of a composite roof panel on a production-specification M car, lightweight boot floor cover, fibreglass sports seats, carbon fibre door cards, and reduced sound deadening.
Just 1,383 examples were produced and only two colours were available, with this car finished in Black Sapphire Metallic and complemented by the black Alcantara interior. Part of the weight saving meant that, as standard, the radio and air conditioning were omitted. This car had them reinstalled as part of the original order.
Produced on 27 September 2003, it was taken to Burgdorf, Germany by its first owner in 2004. Maintenance invoices and proof of technical safety inspections from that time onward are present in the vehicle’s accompanying history file. It should be noted the car’s odometer was changed at some point, with the 64,332 kilometres noted at the time of cataloguing believed to be closer to 90,000 kilometres. Cherished by a previous owner for nearly 15 years and under current ownership for the last two years, the M3 CSL is a must-have for BMW enthusiasts.
Avec sa remarquable admission d’air ronde intégrée au pare-chocs avant qui alimente la boîte à air en fibre de carbone de son moteur à six cylindres en ligne de 3,2 litres, la CSL type E46 est invariablement citée parmi les meilleures BMW M3 de tous les temps. Fidèle à son nom de « Coupé Sport Leicht », le modèle fut allégé de 110 kilogrammes grâce à un panneau de toit en composite, monté pour la première fois sur un modèle M de série, ainsi qu’à un revêtement de plancher de coffre léger, des sièges sport en fibre de verre, des contreportes en fibre de carbone et un dispositif d’insonorisation réduit.
Seulement 1 383 voitures furent produites dans deux coloris. La voiture présentée ici affiche une peinture Black Sapphire Metallic et un habitacle en Alcantara noir. Pour gagner en poids, la radio et la climatisation furent écartées de la spécification de série. Mais elles furent incluses lors de la commande d’origine du présent exemplaire.
Produite le 27 septembre 2003, elle fut emmenée à Burgdorf, en Allemagne, par son premier propriétaire en 2004. Les factures d’entretien et les justificatifs des inspections de sécurité technique de l’époque sont inclus dans le dossier d’historique de la voiture. Il convient de noter que le compteur kilométrique fut remplacé à un certain moment. Le kilométrage de la voiture pourrait être plus près de 90 000 kilomètres que des 64 332 kilomètres relevés lors de la consignation. Conservée soigneusement pendant près de 15 ans par un précédent propriétaire et détenue par son propriétaire actuel depuis deux ans, la M3 CSL est une voiture incontournable pour les passionnés de BMW.
