Identifiable by a circular intake in the front bumper to feed the carbon air box of its sonorous 3.2-litre straight-six, the E46-generation CSL invariably features in conversations regarding the best BMW M3 of all time. True to its “
Coupé Sport Leicht
” name, the model shed 110 kilograms via the first use of a composite roof panel on a production-specification M car, lightweight boot floor cover, fibreglass sports seats, carbon fibre door cards, and reduced sound deadening.
Just 1,383 examples were produced and only two colours were available. The car offered here was configured in Silver Grey Metallic. This pairs with the focused black Alcantara interior. Part of the weight saving meant that, as standard, the radio and air conditioning were deleted. This car had them reinstalled as part of the original order.
Produced on 3 September 2003, it was delivered in Germany three days later. After stints near Neusäß and Augsburg, the M3 CSL eventually joined the ranks of The Best of M Collection in October 2015. Benefitting from a May 2025 service by Autoleth A/S in Harderslev of Denmark and accompanied by a BMW Classic Birth Certificate plus owner’s guides in their leather and Alcantara CSL folio, the car displayed 32,456 kilometres at the time of cataloguing.
Fast immer wird bei Gesprächen über den besten BMW M3 aller Zeiten der CSL der Generation E46 genannt. Ihn erkannt man leicht an den kreisförmigen Lufteinlässen im Frontstoßfänger, die ihre Luft an die Airbox aus Karbon des 3,2 Liter Reihensechszylinders weiterleiten. Durch die Gewichtsreduzierung von rund 110 kg macht der CSL seinem Namen „Coupé Sport Leicht“ alle Ehre: zum ersten Mal kamen hier Verbundwerkstoffe im Fahrzeugdach eines Serienmodells zum Einsatz. Leichtbau gab es auch im Kofferraumboden, bei den Sportsitzen aus Glasfaser, den Türtafeln aus Karbon und durch die reduzierte Geräuschdämmung.
Nur 1.383 Exemplare des CSL wurden je gebaut, und nur in zwei Farben. Das hier angebotene Coupé wurde in Silbergrau Metallic geordert, innen gibt es schwarzes Alcantara. Die angestrebte Gewichtsreduzierung bedeutete auch, dass es serienmäßig weder Radio noch Klimaanlage gab, doch wurden diese hier als Teil der Originalbestellung mitgeordert.
Der am 3. September 2003 gebaute CSL wurde drei Tage später in Deutschland ausgeliefert. Nach Zeit mit Besitzern in Neusäß und Augsburg kam der Wagen schließlich im Oktober 2015 in die Best of M Collection. Der letzte Service wurde im Mai 2025 bei Autoleth A(S im dänischen Hadersleben durchgeführt. Zum Fahrzeug gehören die Geburtsurkunde der BMW Classic sowie die Handbücher in spezifischer CSL Mappe in Leder und Alcantara. Zum Zeitpunkt der Drucklegung zeigte der Wagen 32.456 km Laufleistung an.
