Launched in 1976 following an initiative from Claude Ballot Lena, experienced endurance racing driver and at the time journalist at l'Equipe, the French Touring Car Championship was designed to attract renowned drivers on racing circuits across France. This formula offered a good compromise between entertainment, diversity on the grid, performances and costs, which was very well received by the media and the general public. As a result, the greatest French drivers including F1 stars made their way into this well-respected championship. This specific machine is a perfect example of the latter, since several great names in motor sport had the chance to drive it, such as C. Ballot Lena, J. C.

Andruet, R. Metge or J. L. Schlesser. It also took part in the 24 Hours of Spa three times between 1979 and 1981, with a 3rd place podium in 1980 under the ISO Roulement sponsor livery. It took second place in the French Touring Car Championship the same year with Claude Ballot Lena at the wheel. The car was changed into a Marlboro livery in 1981 and 1982, with details of the results available in the file. Its career then carried on into hill climbing events with Didier Claudon. As a racing car enthusiast himself, the previous owner bought the car and carried out a complete restoration in 2016 with the help of Jose Rocher who designed it at the time.

The bodywork was entirely stripped down and restored to its original 1980 colours. A customised FIA approved roll bar was made. The 2.8L engine prepared by Luigi was completely rebuilt and is now fueled by 3 Weber 48 carburettors with an estimated power of 280hp. The 3L engine prepared by Danielson, which was fitted into the car for various events, will be included in the sale and will have to be fully restored. Naturally, the gearbox, the axle, suspensions, the running gear and even the big brakes have been refurbished. As evidenced by a folder of invoices and pictures, this complete restoration, finished in 2020, has been done to the highest standard.

Acquired at Rétromobile in 2020 by a pilot who ultimately decided to focus on rallies, it has not been entered in any competitions and has seen little use since its restoration. It will therefore be up to its new owner, after a routine service, to enjoy the exceptional performance offered by this authentic and emblematic racing car.
