In 1965, Bentley Motors, aware that the S series that had started life in 1955 had become dated, set about changing this perception. So they created the T series which then stayed in production from 1965 to 1980. The new T Series was announced and displayed for the first time at the Paris Motor Show on 5 October 1965 as a Bentley-badged version of the totally redesigned now "chassis-less' Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. The Bentley was differentiated from its Rolls Royce sibling by its simpler and lighter front grille.
It introduced a range of engineering upgrades that gave the car a very advanced specification and every effort was then taken to reduce road noise and vibration; so harmonic dampers were fitted to the propeller shaft and the entire engine, gearbox and rear suspension were mounted on their own sub frame. For the interior Bentley continued to use beautiful veneers, together with traditional deep pile Wilton carpets and leather upholstery, using eight hides to a car!
The Bentley, being technically an identical twin of the Rolls-Royce, seemed to be bought mostly by owners wishing a little more understatement but they still wanted to enjoy the same luxuries throughout the cabin and the same stately drive.
This 1977 model has had very few owners having largely remained in the ownership of one family. Previously owned by our vendor's father after his employers gifted the car to him in 1991, then the car remained in his possession. The car has since passed to our vendor after a brief ownership by his mother.
Presented in peacock blue with contrasting black vinyl roof and blue interior the car is in great original condition having been garaged for most of its life. We are told that the bodywork is in fine condition with only a few minor blemishes.
The interior is in good overall condition but is however starting to show some signs of age as would be expected from a car of this kind of vintage. The vendor does tell us that some of the wood trim will need re-varnishing at some point to retain the overall condition of the car.
During its life the car has always been well maintained and attended to when needed to insure that it remained in good mechanical and useable order. The car has a professionally fitted sunroof. Unfortunately due to several years of English summers and therefore lack of use, the sunroof cassette has since perished. Due to the fact it was being used so rarely the vendor has had the sunroof sealed. As a result some work will be required should you wish to re-commission the sunroof.
This particular car is a lovely presentable example of possibly the most affordable Bentley model available.
