When iconic British manufacturer Bentley was acquired by Volkswagen in 1998, the German parent company invested heavily in upgrading Bentley’s manufacturing abilities at its ancestral home in Crewe, England, without diminishing its reputation for hand-built excellence. The first vehicle to benefit from this new arrangement was the Continental GT, which made its debut at the 2002 Paris Motor Show. Equipped with a 6L, twin-turbocharged 552 HP W12 engine and a Torsen-based all-wheel drive system, the new Continental GT marked Bentley’s return to its luxury Grand Touring car roots.
After 10 years of Continental GT production in both coupe and later convertible form, in 2012 Bentley released a second-generation Continental GT with an all-new 4.0L, twin-turbocharged V-8 engine, jointly developed with Audi, that produced 500 HP and 487 lb-ft of torque. In addition to being simpler and lighter than the more complicated W12 engine, the new V-8 had 40% better overall fuel consumption, despite delivering comparable power and performance. Other upgrades to the second-generation Continental GT included cylinder deactivation technology and on-demand steering assistance.
The example on offer is a 2015 Bentley Continental GT S Convertible finished in white over a tan leather interior and sports just 40,393 miles on the odometer. This special “S” edition of the Continental GT benefits from an upgraded V-8 engine producing 521 HP and 502 lb-ft of torque mated to an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. Other S improvements include an upgraded suspension system, a front splitter, a rear diffuser and 21-inch Speed wheels shod with Pirelli P Zero tires. Additional luxury appointments include a woodgrain dash and accents, power-adjustable bucket seats, navigation and a power-operated convertible top.
