When Alfa Romeo unveiled the Giulia Sprint GT in 1963, fans of Italian machinery had reason to rejoice. Boasting pin-sharp styling by Giorgetto Giugiaro, plus a musical twin-cam engine, the 1,290-cc coupé was a mass-market thoroughbred. For those unable to afford a Ferrari or Maserati, the Alfa was a gift from above.
In 1966, the feistier 1,570-cc Veloce made its debut. The car offered here is an early example of the type that left Arese on 19 June 1967. Finished in Biancospino with Cuoio interior, the Alfa was dispatched to Reggio Emilia on 11 August and registered in nearby Bologna a month later. Wearing the number “BO 604506”, it remained in Italy for 48 years—including 23 years with an owner from Milan.
In 2015, the Alfa passed to Belgium, where it became part of The Curated Collection. Driving lamps and replacement ball joints were fitted when the car arrived, though in more recent years it appears to have been used sparingly. Presented in its factory-correct colour scheme and offered with its expired Italian
libretto
and factory build data, this Veloce awaits its newest owner for its next chapter.
Quand Alfa Romeo lança la Giulia Sprint GT en 1963, les passionnés d’automobiles italiennes avaient une bonne raison de se réjouir. Avec son design d’une précision remarquable réalisé par Giorgetto Giugiaro et un double arbre à cames musical, le coupé de 1 290 cm3 était un vrai pur-sang de série. Cette Alfa fut un vrai cadeau du ciel pour ceux qui ne pouvaient pas s’offrir une Ferrari ou une Maserati.
C’est en 1966 que la fougueuse Veloce de 1 570 cm3 fit ses débuts. L’exemplaire proposé ici est l’un des premiers de ce type à avoir quitté Arese, le 19 juin 1967. Avec sa finition Biancospino et son habitacle Cuoio, cette Alfa fut livrée à Reggio d'Émilie le 11 août et enregistrée près de Bologne un mois plus tard. Immatriculée "BO 604506", elle demeura en Italie pendant 48 ans, dont 23 ans chez un propriétaire de Milan.
