Toyota’s Yaris M concept is evolving into a mid-engine coupe racer, and it’s starting to look like a new MR2. The prototype will compete in Japan’s Super Taikyu series, with Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda among its four drivers.
Unlike the earlier Yaris hatchback-based version, the latest car wears coupe bodywork and wide rear fenders. Its shape also echoes Toyota’s 2027 WRC concept. Could this be a preview of a road-going sports car?
Power comes from the turbocharged 2.0-liter G20 four-cylinder, not the GR Yaris’ three-cylinder engine. Toyota says it can produce around 400 to 450 horsepower, and the engine has already competed in endurance racing. Is an MR2 revival on the way? For now, the Yaris M remains a prototype but its next evolution is worth watching.
