Toyota is recalling 508,354 Toyota Camrys after discovering a software issue that can cause the digital instrument cluster to remain blank when the vehicle starts. According to NHTSA documents, the problem affects certain 2025 and 2026 Camry Hybrids equipped with a 7.0-inch instrument display.

A blank cluster can mean more than simply losing the speedometer. The malfunction may also disable warning buzzers, turn-signal indicators and hazard-light information on the screen. In some cases, driver and passenger seatbelt warnings and the alert indicating that the key has been left inside the vehicle may also fail.

Toyota’s investigation determined that the problem is software-related and limited to Camrys using the 7.0-inch digital cluster. More seriously, the issue can also prevent the vehicle’s exterior turn signals and hazard lights from operating. The NHTSA considers this an increased crash risk.

Owners of affected vehicles are expected to receive notification by October 5. Toyota dealers will install a software update to correct the problem at no cost to customers.

Camry owners who want to check whether their vehicle is included in the recall can use the NHTSA recall database.

How concerning is a recall that can disable both turn signals and hazard lights? Should Toyota have detected the software problem before these Camrys reached customers? And would you continue driving the car before installing the fix?
