Lexus Takes SUVs Into Another Dimension

Forget traditional concept cars. For MOTOMORPHOSIS, Lexus teamed up with MSCHF to physically distort two production SUVs into sculptures that look like digital 3D models gone completely wrong.
The Lexus RZ450e becomes Circle Car, with its body dramatically curved until the SUV appears to fold back into itself. Meanwhile, the Lexus RX450h+ transforms into Twisted Car, its entire body progressively rotating along its length until the familiar SUV looks almost melted.
The strange part is how familiar these shapes feel. Digital animation makes it easy to stretch, twist and deform objects with a few clicks. MSCHF has essentially taken that visual language out of the computer and recreated it in the real world.
The original production vehicles will be displayed alongside their distorted counterparts, turning the installation into a literal before-and-after comparison.
MOTOMORPHOSIS opens at Chelsea Industrial in New York during Armory Week, with free public viewing on September 25 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The modified vehicles are special project sculptures and may not be street legal.
