After years of relying on surprisingly basic technology, the 2027 Chevrolet Express and 2027 GMC Savana are finally getting a touchscreen infotainment system. According to GM Authority, both commercial vans will enter the 2027 model year with a 7.0-inch display running GM’s Infotainment System 3.

Calling it “new” is a bit generous, though. The system actually dates back to 2020, while a touchscreen was briefly available in these vans for the 2019 model year before disappearing. Since then, the Express and Savana have stuck with a minimalist setup featuring a two-speaker audio system, AM/FM radio, USB, AUX and MP3 support, with Bluetooth available as an option.

For 2027, the vans finally receive a small dose of modern convenience. Confirmed features include Bluetooth phone connectivity and audio streaming, although Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and USB connectivity have yet to be confirmed.

Passenger versions and models equipped with the Crew Van package also gain two additional speakers, bringing the total to four. Cargo and chassis-cab versions remain limited to two speakers.

Beyond the infotainment update and production moving to GM’s Wentzville Assembly plant, the two workhorses remain largely unchanged. Pricing is expected to start just above $45,000.

Is a 7.0-inch touchscreen enough to make these aging vans feel modern? Should GM have added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto from the start? And how long can the Express and Savana continue competing with newer commercial vans?
