Audi’s next flagship sedan may have more in common with a Porsche than ever before. Reports suggest the future Audi A8 could share its platform with the next-generation Porsche Panamera, with production potentially shifting to Porsche’s Leipzig plant. The project reportedly wouldn’t begin building cars before 2030, and the factory plan remains undecided.
This wouldn’t be the first time the brands shared engineering. The Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan already use common technical foundations while delivering different driving experiences.
That distinction will be crucial. The A8 must prioritize quiet comfort and rear-seat luxury, while the Panamera can lean further into performance. Could shared development help keep both models viable as big sedans face pressure from SUVs? And can Audi preserve its own identity while borrowing Porsche hardware?
For now, the details remain unconfirmed. A Porsche connection may revive interest in the A8, but Audi still needs to make the car compelling in its own right.
